Jesus, Bread of Life Parish is participating in the Generation to Generation. Answer the Call Campaign, along with every parish within the Archdiocese of Chicago. This campaign is an opportunity to strengthen our local parish and support the broader Chicago Catholic community by spreading faith, building parishes, supporting our priests, and assisting parish communities in need.

I am fully supportive of this campaign and encourage your participation to join with the faithful from across the Archdiocese of Chicago who are helping to ensure our local church is strong and vibrant for generations to come. Our share of the funds will support instreating air conditioning, constructing guest’s church and creating a parklet not at Our Lady of Grace.

Our Parish Roots
​

Jesus, Bread of Life Parish was formed in July 2021 as part of the Archdiocese of Chicago’s Renewed My Church. The Parish was founded from the unification of two historic North Side communities: St. Michael Parish, located in the West Side, founded in 1884, and Our Lady of Grace Parish in Avendale, founded in 1909. Each parish brought generations of faith, tradition, and service that continue to shape the life of the community today.

Together, these foundations now form one parish family rooted in the Eucharist and inspired by the call of Christ, the Bread of Life, located in Eucharan and inspired by the faith of Jesus, are the foundation of a shared legacy while embracing the opportunities of a new chapter. Today, Jesus, Bread of Life Parish seeks to be a welcoming spiritual home where people encounter Christ, grow in discipleship, and live the Gospel in the heart of Chicago’s vibrant Logan Square and Avendale neighborhoods.

Our Share of the Funds

Through the Generation to Generation: Answer the Call campaign, we will not only play a significant role in this historic moment in the church's history, but we will also support new and exciting projects at our parish. Through much prayer, planning, and conversation, we have identified our greatest needs and initiatives to strengthen our mission and vision for years to come. Our share of the funds raised will address the following:

Enhancing Comfort at St. Sylvester

Built in 1906, St. Sylvester Church has been a spiritual home for generations, and caring for its sacred space is essential to sustaining our mission. Installing air conditioning in the church is an urgent priority that will greatly enhance comfort during worship and parish events. To support this movement, several aging-windowed church interiors will be repaired or replaced so the building can sustain effective climate control. Together, these updates will help preserve our historic church and provide a more welcoming environment for all who gather.

Improving Accessibility at Our Lady of Grace

At Our Lady of Grace, we will improve accessibility and increase safety for all who come to worship and participate in parish life by creating a new parking lot to better accommodate families and visitors. This will require removing a vacant building to make space for a more functional layout. This project will support safer access to the church, strengthen hospitality, and enhance the overall experience of parishioners and guests alike.

Our parish is at a pivotal moment in its future. With faith and hope, and in unity with the vision of our shepherd, Cardinal Blase Cupich, we are taking a decisive step to strengthen our mission. Gifts to Generation to Generation will be held in separate, restricted accounts and used solely for the specific priorities set forth in the Generation to Generation case statement as well as this parish case statement. The campaign goals are approximate and based on anticipated needs and contributions.
